Report from campus: The 2019-2020 school year is off to a great start!

What a wonderful kickoff to our 16th school year! On 1 November, we had sponsors from Thailand, Sweden, Finland and the US join the board for our annual donor reception and campus visit. We were especially pleased that the provincial governor Navon Chheung and a group of local dignitaries joined us for the ceremony and for lunch.

As in past years, board member Gunvor Sarelin-Sjöblom addressed the students in Khmer, to their great delight. There was singing and dancing, a few speeches, and a wonderful lunch.

The school is doing extremely well and running smoothly with more than 320 students enrolled. We are always impressed by the excellent work done by our principal Soviet Miech and his team to pull together this event each year. It takes a lot of effort, and we are appreciative of the fine job that he does.

We’ve already set the date for next year’s event and are planning a few new surprises for our agenda that we will share with you later. But for now, mark your calendars for the 2020 kick off. The donor event in Siem Reap will take place on Wednesday, 28 October and the campus visit will take place on Thursday, 29 October. For anyone interested, we are planning a donor and faculty dinner in the evening and a bonus day on campus to work with the students and teachers on Friday, 30 October.

We’re expecting a big crowd so we’ll be communicating details much earlier than usual to give everyone a chance to make travel plans. We hope to see you there!
